This is the time of year where musicians wear their hearts on their sleeves and cry out to the world for the sake of others not so lucky. Last Tuesday night, Jerry Olsher hosted a record crowd at his store, the Music Mart on Solana Beach, for the benefit of Jessica Treat. A long list of performers sang and played their very best in hopes that the powers above would rain down some mercy on a beautiful lady with a beautiful heart. Jerry speaks for us all with his actions and support for Jessica.

"HERE WE ARE, IT'S CHRISTMAS TIME"........ What would Christmas be if you could not be at the Wang's with Eve Selis? Despite a flu from hell I caught in Durango the week before, I knew that I had to go hear Eve and Jim and Mark and Sharon and Bob and Rick at Bill and Jan Wang's annual Christmas show featuring EVE SELIS and MARY DOLAN. When these 2 chicks get on the microphone at the same time, the power dips in the Southern part of the state of California, and everybody's computers reset! What energy and presence! What a show! Thanks Mark and Jim for some guitar picking beyond comparison! Check out Eve's and Mary's web sites:

Sunday was a loving day in that a benefit for San Diego's Steve King was held at the Mission Bay Boat & Ski Club. Numerous bands and entertainers performed via the leadership of Gary Seiler. A comrade in need of God's help was celebrated by a hundred plus loyal friends, all hoping and praying to themselves that Steve can make it to a higher state of existence somehow.

San Diego does have a big heart like no other city. On December 9th, yet another benefit for one of it's own will be held at The Music Mart in Solana Beach (I5 & Lomas Santa Fe) by Jerry Olsher, for the benefit of Jessica Treat, who needs a prayer. Jessica has been a shining light in the San Diego independent writers scene for quite a while. She is battling a disease that should not be allowed to take her down! We need to help show Jessica that she can make it through and beat the beast! Her friends believe in her strength. Some of the performers scheduled to play on the 12th are:

Gary Look, David Remdle, Marcelo Garza, Jerry Olsher, Rick Duff, Danny Lopez, Alex Armenta, Anthony Sanudo

MOTM 2003 was better than ever! Key West was the place to be last week and the fun and the sun could not be beat. We had a great time and the following musicians need to be thanked for playing with us;

Jerry Gontang
Jim Hoehn
Joe Bennett
Sonny Russell
Jerry Diaz
Rick Steffen
Hugo Duarte
Dave Calhoun
Bradley Manard

Gordon Price, Billy Peoples, Rick Steffen, Sonny Russell, Jerry Diaz

Jerry Gontang

Arizona Tribal Ritual Dance for Jerry

Joe Bennett - party now, pay later!!

Jim Hoehn

Hugo Duarte

Dave Calhoun

The Key West Hyatt and staff should also be thanked for making the week a real hit for us all. Thanks Rafael!!

The MOTM events were well attended and the Casa Marina rocked all week long. The street festival was standing room only and the music was non stop. Radio Margaritaville's program director Steve Huntington was on hand broadcasting the show live on Radio Margaritaville. Thanks Steve for making it happen. Steve is a dedicated advocate of independent musicians around the world and we all owe him a debt of gratitude for helping the free music world out so much.

I am creating a special web site for MOTM 2003 with a link below. As soon as I can, I will get it up for everyone to share the memories. This year we added some new musicians to our list and I am tickled to death to find that these guys are so damn good! Joe Bennett and Rick Steffen and Sonny Russell fit right in with our already well known list of fantastic performers such as Jerry Gontang, Jim Hoehn, Hugo Duarte and Jerry Diaz. Sunday as we were leaving the keys, we pulled into a place known as "ALABAMA JACKS" and low and behold, there was a RICK STEFFEN POSTER hanging next to the band stand. What a hoot to have played with him a day before in person. Joe and Rick both have some wonderful music out that is well worth buying in my opinion.

I was just checking the RADIO MARGARITAVILLE schedule for this week and it looks like DAVE ZOBL and HURRICANE GORDON are scheduled for Friday 10-24-03 on 3 different time slots and also on Sunday 10-26-03 on one time slot. Back in December Dave Zobl came out to San Diego and recorded a live show for RM and BARMUSIC.COM at our home studio. Congratulations DAVE!!! It's been a long time coming, but could be your best day yet!

WOW! What a weekend we had at San Carlos Mexico at the 1st annual PARROT HEADS IN PARADISO event with MEXICO MARK MULLIGAN AND GARY SEILER AND RAY CODY. The PARADISO resort is situated in the most beautiful setting on the Sea of Cortez nestled in the mountains. The weekend activities ranged from hanging out at the pool to live music on a sunset cruise that was unforgettable.

The owners of the resort turned out to be old neighbors from across the country from Tierra Verde Florida, where we lived for 10 years. Thanks go to both Bart and Joep De Bruijn, and Victor the marketing manager of the resort! It was the greatest weekend yet. Next year promises to be bigger and better. I am creating a special web page for the 2003 event with photos and video as I get the data processed. The web site that is under construction and not complete yet is shown below. In a couple of weeks it should be done.

It's time to start planning the MOTM show in Key West Florida again! This year BARMUSIC.COM will sponsor a week long show at the Key West Hyatt, Monday October 27th - Saturday November 1st, 2003. We already have some takers who want to play from both sides of our great country, so stay tuned for more details. Performers will play by invitation only, due to the rather limited schedule we have to keep in order to work everybody in.

Last year was a great success and we can't wait for this year again. Check out the special web page for last year's show below:

Gary Seiler

What a weekend this was! Friday and Sunday part II of the HUGO DUARTE SHOW was on Radio Margaritaville. Friday night a jam session broke out at Gary Seiler's pad after I finished a 6-9PM show at Old Town. Mexico Mark Mulligan and his brother Dave were on hand and we heard some brand new songs from Mark and Dave and Gary.

Taylor Harvey - Tim Edwards

Saturday, Bob Kanish and Buzz Buchanan joined me for a 4 hour show at the OLD TOWN MARKET in San Diego, and Sunday was the all day extravaganza house concert at Cheri Robertson's house in La Mesa (San Diego). Cheri's house concert started at 1PM and ran until 8PM! The line up included: Gary Seiler, Mark Mulligan, Taylor Harvey, Tim Edwards, Rob Mehl, Jim Hoehn, "HURRICANE" Gordon Price, Bob Kanish, Buzz Buchanan, Dave Mulligan, and Dave Calhoun.

Buzz Buchanan- Jim Hoehn - Gary Seiler - Bob Kanish

"Hurricane" Gordon - Bob Kanish

Bob Kanish received an award of gratitude for his service to BARMUSIC.COM. Bob was given Greg "FINGERS" Taylor's autographed harmonica and picture. Maybe someday we can give Greg Taylor Bob's autographed harmonica! What do you think about them apples??? Bob is the best west of the rockies, anyway. Check out the link below for pictures of Cheri's gala event:

I just checked the RADIO MARGARITAVILLE line up for this week and noticed that a show I recorded with HUGO DUARTE when he was out here in April, will be aired on Jimmy Buffett's internet radio station http://www.radiomargaritaville.com this Friday August 8th, 2003. The show times are :

6AM EST = 3AM PST

2PM EST = 11AM PST

10PM EST = 7PM PST

There is a lot more to Hugo than meets the eyes or ears for sure. Hugo tells a story of being on the Galleon Atocha wreck the day Mel Fisher discovered the mother load of all treasures off the Marquessas in the Florida Keys off Key West. Hugo was certified to dive on this wreck! You will also hear about the real "HILLBILLY BEACH" in Key West. THANK YOU STEVE HUNTINGTON!!!!

Friday night I had the pleasure of playing at The Old Town Market in San Diego with BUZZ BUCHANAN. Buzz is a conga/percussionist who has played for KOKO LOCO and Gary Seiler and many others in the recent past.

On Sunday August 17th, 2003, there will be a fun packed house concert in La Mesa California (San Diego) at the home of Cheri Robertson. Entertainers on the line up are: MEXICO MARK MULLIGAN, GARY SEILER, ROB MEHL, TAYLOR HARVEY and "HURRICANE" GORDON PRICE. You can get tickets by emailing:

You can email Cheri at Cheri72@cox.net

The show starts at 1PM PST and goes until it stops or the cops come.

Mark Mulligan & "Hurricane" Gordon

This last weekend we had our first experience with MIGRATION 2003 put on by a combo effort of Orange County and LA parrot head clubs and IEPHC up in Long Beach CA. There was an impressive list of musician/groups such as KOKO LOCO, John Finzi, Doyle Grisham, Amy Lee, T.C. Mitchell, Mark Mulligan. It really was fun meeting the Coral Reefers in person! Both T.C. and Amy play saxophones and you can understand clearly why Jimmy Buffett landed them for the Coral Reefer band.

Doyle Grisham - John Frinzi

I had the lucky chance to talk to Amy Lee for a brief moment, and was stunned by her up close outgoing personality (and red hair)! Amy is a Georgia Peach and Lives in the Atlanta area where I grew up (or started to ,anyway). You can read all about this talented wonder from above and buy her CD "INSIDE THE OUTSIDE" at:

This weekend BARMUSIC.COM (and "HURRICANE" Gordon) will be playing again at the OLD TOWN MARKET in OLD TOWN San Diego with ex KOKO LOCO percussionist Buzz Buchanan, from 6-9PM Friday night August 1st 2003.

7-23-03

BARMUSIC.COM will be hosting a show this week at the OLD TOWN MARKET on Thursday, July 24th, from 6PM - 9PM. Friday and Saturday night we will be at MIGRATION 2003 in Long Beach California with a bunch of good friends including Jerry Gontang and Mexico Mark Mulligan.

7-11-03

BARMUSIC.COM will be hosting shows this week at the OLD TOWN MARKET on Saturday July 12th from 12PM - 4PM and Friday, July 18th, from 6PM - 9PM. There will be some featured guests such as JERRY GONTANG of KOKO LOCO.

Last night, July 10th, BOB KANISH and GARY SEILER joined in at the OLD TOWN MARKET with "Hurricane" Gordon and between the 3 of them, the place will never be the same. There was actually a pretty good crowd of folks wandering in and out of the market and enjoying the jokes and music. Very few vegetables were actually thrown at the stage, and only a few violent threats were made by the audience. All in all, it was a great night! Everybody lived.

6-27-03

BARMUSIC.COM will be hosting shows this week at the OLD TOWN MARKET on Saturday June 28th from 11AM - 4PM and Thursday, July 3rd, from 6PM - 9PM. There will be some walk on guest performers, rumor has it! Summer is here and let the fun begin! "HURRICANE" Gordon will be performing unless management suddenly comes to it's senses.

6-22-03

Last night I had a blast playing at the Old Town Market in San Diego. The venue is very laid back and civilized! It sort of reminds me of the quaint shops in Disney World/Epcot in Orlando. It's nice to see people roaming around from shop to shop and enjoying the simple things in life.

6-20-03

I had the pleasure of finally making it to CABO SAN LUCAS and visiting the famous CABO WABO CANTINA, for which my boat is named, that sits in Key West Florida. SAMMY HAGAR of course founded the bar and will be there in person for his birthday in October. That must be a riot!! We enjoyed the local house band and as you could guess, the music was hard rock Hagar and Van Halen style! I have some great pictures and bought out the T shirt store. We love you SAMMY!! Been there, done that, bought a hat, decals for the boat, and most of the shirts!

This Saturday, 6-21-03, old "HURRICANE" Gordon will be playing live at San Diego's OLD TOWN MARKET right behind the store "San Diego By Sea" from 5PM till 9PM. This is really a beautiful place and it is right next to the main gate for the OLD TOWN STATE PARK. "OLD TOWN TROLLEY TOURS" and "HISTORIC TOURS OF AMERICA" were started in Key West Florida and run the CONCH TRAIN and own MALLORY SQUARE and a large part of the down town Key West waterfront.

There is a cool little stage nestled in the OLD TOWN MARKET where BARMUSIC.COM will be providing local musicians with a great little venue from time to time in conjunction with local entertainer, Phil Dempsey. Details to come.......

This week has been a busy week, to put it mildly. I don't normally comment on already well known international groups and stars because I don't want to become known as a bloody critic, but passing out compliments is not being a critic in my book. Tuesday night my son and I went to SDSU's Cox Arena and got blown away by Chris Martin and COLD PLAY!!! This bunch of youngsters have a most original sound, to put it mildly. Chris Martin is really the most dynamic singer on the stage today. His dynamics and piano playing keep your ears and attention for the entire show. The light show is a once in a life time experience! GO CHRIS!!

Last night I took a trip down to "DIZZY'S" in the San Diego Gas Lamp District to hear a CD release by local SVEN-ERIK SEAHOLM. Sven released a new CD entitled "UPLOAD" which features local CHARLIE LOACH and many others. The CD has a lot of names on it including "CO-PRODUCED BY JEFF BERKLEY". Is there anything in San Diego Jeff has not got his name on yet?

5-25-03

Last night the Wangs had a house concert that opened with Denver's Dave Zobl and ended with local San Diego's Taylor Harvey. The show was excellent and up close and personal! We are building a new web site for Dave Zobl here at BARMUSIC so those of you who have not met Dave can see and learn more. You can also check out Taylor Harvey too! I have to say something about Taylor's Band and Joe Norwood and Karl Cabbage, .... "YOU ARE THE BEST BLUES BAND IN TOWN OR SOCAL!". --- Hurricane Gordon

This Friday, May 16th 2003, at 2PM EST and 11AM PST, a special show TAYLOR HARVEY and I recorded back in December will be on RADIO MARGARITAVILLE! The timing is perfect because Taylor just released his first CD named "NO LOITERING" this past Saturday night at Steve Langdon's "DESI' and Friends". The CD release party was a big success and Taylor's band really rocks. I got to hear Joe Norwood for the first time ever, and man, Stevie Ray is bouncing in his grave! Joe and Karl and the rest of the band really can put on some mean blues and rock! CONGRATULATIONS TAYLOR!!!

KOKO LOCO and HUGO DUARTE AT SDPHC 2003 4-26-03

4-28-03

The house concert last Thursday night was a once in a lifetime combination of some of the best local talent. "HURRICANE" Gordon and Jerry Gontang and Gary Seiler and Bob Kanish and Charlie Loach performed 4 unusual harmony songs and introduced 2 new songs to San Diego, one by Charlie and the other by Gordon.

Mexico Mark Mulligan and Gary Seiler performed the open up act followed by the group orchestration just mentioned. Then HUGO DUARTE entered the room and made beautiful music and told funny stories. EMILY HUTCHISON joined in for a patriotic tribute song with HUGO! WHAT A NIGHT! WHAT A SUNSET! WHAT A CROWD! Hugo played for almost 3 hours with only a short break!

Friday night KOKO LOCO performed at Campland on the Bay and Hugo sat in with them on a few numbers. What a show! It was so much fun seeing Jerry and Hugo on the same stage. What incredible synergy and energy.

Saturday was the SDPHC 2003 annual party at Campland on the Bay. It started early in the morning and ran till late Saturday night. BARMUSIC.COM had a 75 minute show from 4:45PM till 6PM +/-. Gordon, Jerry, Gary, Charlie, Bob and Hugo let it all fly in front of 600-800 fans +/-. What a MAGIC DAY!! Thank you everyone for coming and sharing the fun with us! Hugo was absolutely a hit! MORE TO COME AS SOON AS I CAN GET SOME PICTURES AND VIDEO PRODUCED!

I would be remiss if I did not mention the CD release party for Charlie Loach's band "The Mysterious Ways" that was held at the HARD ROCK CAFE- LA JOLLA later that same Friday night. Chuck Sheely, the band leader, put together an interesting parade of musicians who played various favorites and numbers from the new CD. Charlie Loach is a world class lead guitarist and his long hair and rocker look fits the ticket to a tee!

4-18-03

Just a reminder that the HUGO DUARTE house concert Thursday night, 4-24-03, is not but 5 days from now, and the SDPHC 2003 ANNUAL PARTY is Saturday 4-26-03! The concert line up includes: HUGO DUARTE, EMILY HUTCHISON, MEXICO MARK MULLIGAN, DAVE ZOBL, GARY SEILER, JERRY GONTANG, BOB KANISH, CHARLIE LOACH and old HURRICANE GORDON himself!

I just had the pleasure of completing a one hour radio show with Denver Colorado's DAVE ZOBL. This show is now airing on RADIO BARMUSIC and is a real treat for anyone who stumbles into it. There is a neat little music store down the street from my house that is going to start having a once a month acoustic show that I thought would be of interest to anyone in the San Diego area. This Thursday 3-6-03 at 7:30PM the "MUSIC MART" at 122 Solana Hills Drive in the Staples Mall is going to feature local artists: Danielle Lo Presti, Matthew Stewart and Simeon Flick. Call (858) 259-3940 and ask for Jerry Olsher for details. The MUSIC MART has a great bandstand set up and this should be an interesting local venue in the future.

The news is loose! BARMUSIC.COM has a special one hour segment at the San Diego Parrot Head Club 8th annual party at Campland on the Bay in San Diego on 4-26-03. SDPHC president, Bob Clark, recorded a live interview today that is airing on RADIO BARMUSIC starting today. There will be lots of great musicians from all around San Diego performing at the party as usual. It is the best Parrot Head function I have been to as far as comfort and venue is concerned. Last year, somewhere near a thousand fans enjoyed a world class party! All the details and ticket info and musical line up are located at:

Our hearts shrink and our tears flow for those brave men and women who gave their lives today on the bravest of human missions into space, aboard the Space Shuttle COLUMBIA!

Americans, please stop and think about the great heroes aboard Columbia who just made the ultimate sacrifice for science, you and your children, and all man kind! As an electronic engineer, (and ex space program engineer many years ago) my throat is so choked with sympathetic grief that I can not even swallow. These poor heroes believed so strongly in their country and the quest for knowledge that they freely gave their lives for the hope of advancement of the human race.

Our prayers are for the surviving families who must be shattered in disbelief of the horrifying events of today. Our memories shall never forget these brave men and women who died today for us all. --- R. Gordon Price, BARMUSIC.COM

Wednesday night found a nice crowd down at Hungries in Old Town, San Diego, led by the head party animal entertainer, Taylor Harvey. Taylor and Vern and Steve and David Crawford and myself belted out a few acoustic numbers to a crowd that was almost louder than the entertainment. It was fun anyway!

Last Saturday night I had the rare treat to record a live interview with San Diego's own Joe Rathburn. Joe has been nominated several times for the San Diego Music Awards in the past. You can hear this show now on RADIO BARMUSIC.COM.

I was working in my office today and listening to Radio Margaritaville in the background, as usual, and to my surprise, I heard Steve Huntington introduce myself and JERRY GONTANG. Steve aired the one hour show Jerry and I recorded about a month and a half ago, just before Jerry and Tony Irvine opened for Mac McAnally in San Juan Capistrano.

It is possible the show might be on tonight at 7PM PST if the schedule is what I think it is. Who knows??

Special Thanks go to Steve Huntington and the staff at Radio Margaritaville for airing the 2 one hour shows that MEXICO MARK MULLIGAN and I recorded. The second hour included GARY SEILER AND MEXICO MARK and yours truly, HURRICANE GORDON. The shows were aired Friday 12-20-02 and Friday 12-27-02 on 3 spots each day! At the very end of the 12-27-02 show, Steve Huntington hinted that the Jerry Gontang show would air the following Friday 1-3-03, but I have not seen it published in the Radio Margaritaville line up yet. I will keep you posted!
